January moments

The end of january is near. It has been a quiet month. Cold, windy, dry - no rain and only a little bit of snow. A good time for indoor life. These are the january moments.

Using the Christmas candleholders for the last time in this round.

Frost, scraping the car and waiting for the windscreen to be clear enough to drive.

There has been a month of lots of wind and ice. But after all it is January...

It is good weather for staying in and looking out.....

And on the subject staying in....Food and books can get you a long way.

Bitterly cold weekend in the country

I have spent the weekend in the country. For the past week we have had bitterly cold, easterly winds coming in, and you notice them so much more when you are out of the city. But I am an island girl. I am used to the wind. I even like it. I even got a new pair of mittens, knitted by my aunt.

14. january - tuesday

This year I will try and document the 14th of every month (if I can remember). January 14 was not so hard to remember. It was an ordinary winters tuesday like the days are at the moment.

Morning coffee followed by a morning walk. Came home looked out the window and saw the smiley my neighbours has painted on their wall.

 I only have the sleeves left, and there is a hint of sun as I look out the window

 Three hours nightshift on a quiet night and walking home in the crisp winter evening. By accient I took a selfie in all my winter wrappings.

Early January life......

 The start to the year has been as grey and wet as most of the winter has been so far. It is a good time for indoors activities.

 Like doing the laundry and packing away Christmas.

I am knitting lace and organizing my yarn so I know how much I have of everything. Wonder if I'll ever be able to knit it off?!.

I have time to long cook stew from the christmas leftovers and I am really enjoying my new digital radio.

Sea fever

One of the good things about having plenty of time in january is that there is time to go for a walk in the daylight on an ordinary weekday. Today I went to the coast for my walk. Than I came to think about the poem Sea Fever by John Masefield. I remember reading it when I lived in London many years ago, and at the time it suddenly made it clear what this longing I had inside was: I needed to go to the sea. I live in the city now also, but I have realised that the sea will never stop to draw med to it. I grew up by on a tiny island and it I realise it has marked me forever. In a good way that is.

Grey and windy, but no rain during my walk today. Perfect weather.

Sea fever

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

New year blues..

It has been a quiet start to 2014. Holiday mode is still on in many ways. The weather has not invited to outdoor activities, even if it has been better than we have seen in a long time. I don't have a lot of work at the moment either, so it is the indoor activities that rules. Reading a crime novel is the most exciting thing this week. I have started to knit a cardigan. I have so much yarn in my baskets. And games like candy crush saga and wordfeud are always a good way to kill time.
