Keep in mind...

As I orgnanized my July photos I realised that, in a wet and cold summer month, I have photographed a lot of sunsets. In fact overall  - I do take a lot of photographs of  sunsets.

But keep in mind that I - for the past five years - have had direct view to the sunset from the living room window and keep in mind that for the first time in my life I have this kind of view. So I have it bang in my face all the time.

And keep in mind that I don't plan to live here forever, and who knows what the view will be like next time around.

Keep in mind that I have the feeling that each sunset is different.

Keep in mind that this is only for a few months of the year. The rest of the year we can hardly see any sun at all :).

July moments.....

Holiday month...
Lazy, peace and calm
A lot of rain..
Some sunshine...
I think that sums it up.

I have to admit - I am drawn to photographing sunsets. For a change I took some photos of the shaddows the sunset makes indoors.

An orchid is back in bloom.

You just can't go to bed on a night like this. 19th ofJuly - 00.30 am.

I have been running a lot along this path.

There has been a lot of this. It has been one of the coldest summers on record in Norway.

But still, at the end of the month the roses a coming along.

I have spent some time in the country with late evening walks.

And in late july there are things that remind us of summer...

Jeans...

For the past few years I have lived in jeans. I feel that I never wear anything else nowadays. When I changed my career about five years ago, I gradually moved into jeans. I wore them before also, but only in my leisure time. I think that was partly to do with the fact that when I grew up, jeans where regarded as "work clothes". You wore it when you where out doing manual work, and it was not for women over a certain age. I am glad that has changed! I used to be the uniform, suit, black and white person. No my uniform is jeans.  But I look for "nice" jeans, that you can dress up. Sometimes I am letting myself go, though, and earlier this week I bought these ripped jeans with embroidery. I am sure I will wear them to work. What a change!

The year in books VI...

I read this book over the weekend. I have read a few books by Karin Fossum. They have always been given to me or someone has asked "do you want to borrow this?" and I think "ok". This time I borrowed it from my aunt. Didn't choose it myself - she asked.

Karin Fossum is a Norwegian crime writer. She is very popular in this country and also abroad. Her books are published in more than 30 countries and over here some of her books have been made into popular movies and tv-series. She writes crime in the sence that there is always a murder, she has an inspector that solves the crime, but she takes it so much further than that.

Each time I get one of her books in my hands I am absolutely certain that I will hate the book and each time I am mistaken. This particular book is about two different mother-son relationships. Each unhealthy, I guess.  Karin Fossum just takes the lives that she portrays to the core of the everyday struggle, the frail happiness and difficult love. I just get drawn into it every time and it sits in my body.

This is a new book (2014) and I am sure it will be published in English. I will leave the translation of the title to the professionals, but direct translation is something to do with hell and fire, even if it has a double meaning :).

I could not put this book away. It is very good. If you ever get a chance to read a book by Karin Fossum - read it. She takes it to the core!

Interlude.......

It is holiday time and quiet days. Apart from the most touristy areas of the city, the streets are just about empty and there is noticably fewer cars on the road. In the country there are more boats on the fjord, and cabins  have doors and windows open in opposition to many residential houses that are closed and void of people for  few days or weeks.  It is quite unusal for me to have a holiday experience from that side. For many years I worked in the tourist industry and was at "the receiving" end of the touriststream. When July was at its busiest I used to think: "It is an interlude. In a  few weeks we are back to normal."

A family of ducks I met on my run this morning.

The year in books V...

Lately I have read Wild by Cheryl Strayed. I picked it because I read a rave review of it, and as I quite enjoy travel tales I was sure that I would love it. I didn't know that it had been made into a movie before I opened the book, even if it was stated on the front page. Cheryl writes about loosing her footing in life when she loose her mother and her decision to hike the Pacific Crest Trail to regain her footing in life. The story takes us through her journey, the encounters she has on her way and her reflections on her life, past and present. It is a good read, but I wasn't completely blown away by it. I have read similar books before that has captured me, that I haven't been able to put away and that has made me dream of going there, despite the hardship they often portray. That didn't happen in this case. Something is missing, but I can't put my finger on what it is. If it hadn't been for the "summer silence" that is here at the moment, it would probably had taken me a lot longer to get through it. But I would have gotten through it. It is not bad. Maybe my expectations where just to high. I do not dream of hiking the Pacific Crest trail after having read the book, but that is not a valid measurement :).
