December moments......

December..
Dark and wet, but still
With so much light and warmth.
Here are the moments....

Winterlight can be magic.

It is the season when everything is allowed. No problem to wear this hat outside with the lights on.

The Autumn has been long so it  was good to get a couple of weeks holiday.

Holiday time and triangle scarf in the making.

Advent.....

The Christmas decorations are up, but outside it is warmer than it was in July, the lawn is green and it never stops raining!

It rains and rains.....

It is dark and wet, but Christmas makes it so  much lighter.

Aaahh, Christmaseve is here....

On the 27th the white Christmas came. Imagine it was cold enough for snow! It lasted for two days.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The year in review 2015....

2015 has come and gone.

It has been a quiet year, but not a bad year.

Not at all......

Personal development and growth has been on the agenda (Sounds pompous, I know) ....

We have had a lot of extreme weather; wind, rain and floods.

We have also had good days where you can capture  the beauty that surrounds us...

I have had the same students throughout the year. 2016 will bring changes....

I walked around Bergen a lot in springtime. I stopped in the summer and autumn for some reason.

And I rediscovered Bergens many picturesque streets......

I have been driving to work. It is a long time since I have had such a long drive to work.

I had a long summer holiday where I enjoyed the sunsets from the balcony......

Or spent the time in the village by the coast...

It was a cold summer, but in August it was warm enough for me to put my toes in the sea...

I have been running around this lake a lot this Autumn. Most days in rain, but I choose a photo from a nice day.

A run on the darkest day of the year. Wet like most days this year.

Silent Sunday....

It was good to wake up and find some "normality" about the December weather.

Circle....

Running at 10 am on 21st December. Look forward to more daylight.

It is winter solstice today. Even if I don't mind the winter and find it fascinating with the change in light and darkness, I must say that I have found this December awfully dark. It has all to do with the weather. Is has rained and rained for what seems like forever. There are floods upon flood nearby and weather records for warmest December and most rain are both broken. I could write a lot about climate change, and is there anything we can do? (This is gettig a bit frightening), but I won't. Today I celebrate the fact that more daylight is coming.

We will have no white Christmas around here, that is for sure. As I read on facebook the other day: The only "white" we'll have for Christmas this year is huge rivers and waterfalls.

Brev = letter; as in letters many of us don't send anymore......

At work we have this secret friend thing going on at the moment. If you don't know what it involves, it is basically that you get a colleague as your "Secret friend" and the point is do to things for him or her like giving a gift, cleaning the office -  whatever   My idea for my secret friend involves a christmas card. I remember buying a packet of Christmas Cards a few years ago - probably ten in a packet - and I thought: have I used them all and will I have to buy one, or? (Ten Cards in how many years? Nearing ten,probably!) - Because I don't really send Christmas cards anymore. It is mainly SMS and social media around here.

I got my box with cards out and in there I found some cards sent to me. Those cards really made me smile. Cards with beautiful motifs and handwriting - I thought: We have to get back to handwritten Chritsmas cards that we send in the mail! (I know it won't happen).

I got the above card from a friend I was at University with. I know that she made the card herself. I just love the fact that she pieced it together bit by bit, got out a pen and sat down to write to me by hand.

When I worked in the hospitality industry a few years back, I one summer was asked by a tourist to answer a questionaire. She came from Japan and was a student who did research on her way around Europe. She said that if I answered her questions she would send me a Christmas card. It was high summer in Norway and Christmas was not on my mind at all. I can still remember how surprised and happy I felt when I found a Christmas card from Japan in the mailbox.

I am all for mobile phones and social media. I am glad to have experienced life both with and without it, an I regard SMS and social media as progress. It is just something different to get a handwritten card rather than a meassage on the phone or on facebook.

Advent....

We are well into my favourite time of the year. I love this pre-Christmas time. This year I am feeling rather exhausted from work commitments and can't wait for the christmas holiday, but still I try to enjoy the advent time.

What I love is all the light we put up in the middle of the dark period. Some of it I can admirer and enjoy, others  I can laugh at and shake my head at. I love the "goodness" that is around; gift giving, parties, kindness.

I love the fact that you can come to work in a Santa Claus hat with long plaits, wear it all day and nobody rises an eyebrow. You can only do that in December. It is only in December we theme days like that.

I love the break it gives us at the end of one year, before we go into a new one with 365 blank pages.

I love that I can take ot my red candle light holders. I love red,but I am afraid to use to much interior in red. I am afraid it will be to overpowering. Christmas gives me an excuse to try it out.
